The Grant Park Music Festival (the Festival) in Chicago, Illinois seeks a full-time Deputy Front of House Manager for the 2021 summer season of concerts in Millennium Park, produced by the Festival and the City of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE). Work would begin in May and continue through late September. The Deputy Front of House Manager will report to the Festival's Front of House Manager. In the absence of the Front of House Manager, the Deputy Front of House Manager leads the Festival's team of ushers and works to ensure an enjoyable and safe experience for all patrons and visitors to the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. Qualified candidates for this position will have extensive team leadership experience, an appreciation for a wide variety of music/performance genres, and a demonstrated ability to succeed in a fast-paced work environment.
 
KEY DUTIES

• When the Front of House Manager is away, lead front of house operations for approximately 10 - 15 concerts at Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, during July - September.
• Participate in the hiring, scheduling, and training of usher staff of approximately 50.
• As needed, coordinate event logistics with other venue personnel and departments (including security, production, custodial and maintenance, electricians, stage crew, volunteers, etc.).
• Perform routine tasks to prepare venue for performances (including the movement of signage, stanchions, tables, chairs, etc.).

MINIMUM CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of two years experience managing front of house operations in a large-capacity venue (1,000+ seats) and/or outdoor setting.
• Previous experience supervising large (15+) teams.
• Demonstrated communication and customer service skills; ability to handle challenging situations with grace, diplomacy, and professionalism; ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a pleasant and courteous manner.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; ability to work outdoors, at times in inclement weather; ability to stand/walk for up to six hours at a time.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, continuously changing, and sometimes loud environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook) and computer tasks.

COMPENSATION/SCHEDULE

• $20 - $24/hour, commensurate with experience.
• Hours will vary based on concert schedule and duration; shifts will typically be afternoon – evening. Administrative tasks can be performed remotely. This position is non-exempt and some overtime may be possible.
• Weekend and holiday availability is required, July - September.
• Position Start Date: May 2021, specific date by mutual agreement.
